The USB-C requirement in accessory sales

Since the end of December 2024, mobile phones, tablets, headphones, cameras and other small devices with wired charging that are newly placed on the EU market must have a USB-C port. For notebooks the requirement has applied since April 2026.

What this means for selling

• Customers expect existing cables and power supplies to remain usable. That is a selling point, not a problem.
• Devices may be sold without a power supply. The packaging indicates whether one is included.
• The required charging power is shown in the pictogram on the packaging – useful when customers ask which power supply fits.

Recommending the right accessories

Not every USB-C cable carries the same power. Where customers expect fast charging, the combination of power supply, cable and device decides. In the conversation it pays to ask about the strongest power supply the customer already owns and match the cable to it.

The single connector does not reduce the need for accessories – it shifts it towards higher-quality cables and multi-port power supplies.
